Hero Depression

Depression

Another wasted day.

You did nothing again – at least nothing of consequence anyway. You sigh and wonder, “What’s the point anymore? Nothing’s working. You should give up. It’s the easier option.

To get something done for a change, you tell yourself that it is time to clean out your closet today. Instead, you stare into that mess as you lay on your bed.

So much for being productive today. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. But you doubt it.

Nothing ever matters.

Today, you decided to do something with others, but you canceled and fibbed to your friends, saying that you forgot you had to help someone do something.

Instead, you went down the rabbit hole again. There’s something so comfortable down there.

You wonder if your friends are onto you because you always break plans. You figure, though, that no one will miss you anyway.

It’s all too much!

You fail miserably whenever you think about trying to change things and make more of an effort.

You always have an excuse for why you can’t or don’t do things.

At this point, you start believing you are a loser.

No wonder you aren’t in a relationship. You have nothing interesting to say, never go anywhere, and have no “fantastic” experiences to share. Who’d be interested in you?

How’s that working for you?

You’re not “stupid.” Nor are you any number of other labels you claim for yourself. Life is hard sometimes. Don’t always believe what you see on Facebook!

Stop using a shovel to dig yourself out of your hole.

Trying to change or reason with the past means you miss what’s right in front of you. Your life right now.

Stop feeding your depression.

Let’s join forces to make friends with your depression. There’s no reason to be its enemy. We’ll work together to develop the tools to handle thoughts and feelings driving your depression and to handle them more effectively.

We’ll also examine your values, what you want from life, what matters most to you, and who you want to be. Learning to align with your values; i.e., your mind’s helpers, will guide you to a rewarding and fully lived life.

With mindfulness exercises and worksheets, both in session and out, you’ll practice new skills, engage again with those around you, no longer avoid get-togethers, and learn to accept yourself and others as fallible human beings unconditionally.

Be curious.

Start noticing the world, find beauty in the most minor things, observe all around you, breathe deeply, and ask yourself, “How do I want to spend my life?”

There is another way.

Throw down your shovel and embrace the possibilities. You are ready, despite what your mind is telling you.

Reach out. I’m an email or call away. There’s no excuse.
